Children’s Bureau’s mission is to improve the quality of life of children and families in our community through accessible, valid and proven programs that enhance and strengthen mental health and wellness.
Children’s Bureau’s newly opened Mental Health Rehabilitation (MHR) program is a community-based and Medicaid funded program that assists children ages 0 to 17 to improve their ability to function at home and/or school in spite of emotional or behavioral issues. Established in 1990, Project LAST provides specialized, community-based counseling services to children and families who have been impacted by grief and trauma, and it has developed its own evidence-based Grief and Trauma Intervention (GTI) that has been shown to be effective in improving children’s mental health. Children’s Bureau’s Family Preservation program provides intensive, home-based services to children with chronic mental illness with the goal of preventing out-of-home placement, and through the Quality Start program, Children’s Bureau has partnered with Tulane University School of Medicine to provide mental health consultation to child care centers as an initiative to increase the quality of child care centers in Louisiana.
